Celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the epic Oasis gig at Knebworth on 11th August 1996. The BBC are all over it. Of course they are. 6 Music will no doubt be broadcasting the entire concert with Jo Whiley retrospectively enthusing. I didn’t go to Oasis. I was already settled down with an 18 month old son. But exactly seventeen years earlier – 11th August 1979 – I was at Knebworth with 200,000 others to see Led Zeppelin. Someone offered me a ticket and I thought why not? How many reasons do you want? I hated every second of it. This is the one Zeppelin track I love and they didn’t do it till the encore. Might as well have been dropped in by parachute for that. It took hours to get out and that put me off huge crowds for life. That’s fine, though. Huge crowds aren’t something you ever encounter at Loftus Road.
On 11th August, I was at Knebworth.
