Best double album ever?

There have been quite a few shouts lately for Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti which was released 40 years ago this week. But for me, it would have to be the double album that will celebrate that milestone towards the end of next year. The word “genius” is now bandied around far too easily but when describing Stevie Wonder, it is entirely accurate. Songs in the Key of Life is a masterpiece of songwriting, performance, production and all-round Granny-winning brilliance. I still remember the thrill of going down to Our Price records next to Finchley Road tube and handing over quite a chunk of hard-earned paper round money for my copy in its original gatefold sleeve. I’m looking at it right now. Every track – including those on the bonus four-track EP – is a gem, so I’m just going to pick one at random.
