The Favourite.

Congratulations to Olivia Colman on winning an Oscar last night for her portrayal of Queen Anne in The Favourite. Given her national treasure status in the UK, the title of the film could hardly be more appropriate. I used to work with her lot when she was the voice of Sainsbury’s and she was – as you might expect – nice, down to earth and completely unaffected by stardom. In school holidays, she’d turn up with her two little boys. If you didn’t know what she did for a living, you’d never guess. She’s just always been extraordinarily good at pretending to be other people. Oscar-winningly good. She’s yet to appear on Desert Island Discs so I’ve no idea what her favourite records are. But this version of this track is definitely one of mine.
