To the Motoring section of the Exchange & Mart. I just had to see it and, within seconds, I’d be be scouring those classifieds for an automotive gem. Nothing classic – though they would be now – and never more than about £600, I bought all sorts of cars from a Morris Minor to an Inspector Morse Jag. Somehow, despite being mechanically useless, I never bought a bad one. One morning, I noticed the Exchange & Mart on a colleague’s desk and, twenty minutes later was on my way to Whetstone to buy this very car; a silver Mk.II 1600E Cortina. My friend Graham Brown’s addiction was even worse. He told me that he once knew someone at the Exchange & Mart and got it the day before it came out. Then he looked at me very seriously and said “Whatever you do, don’t even think about going on eBay Motors”.
I once had a serious addiction.
