Simply because he’s calls himself “Andy”. Some abbreviations are fine for politicians – Tony, Bill, Chris, Tom. Others are not. Which is why we didn’t have Dave Cameron, Johnny Major or Jamie Callaghan. The British electorate are a fickle bunch and, while they may well have voted for Andrew Burnham, they won’t be voting for “Andy”. He’s just trying a little too hard to be accessible and matey. Always a terrible turn-off. Even Andrew Ridgeley never called himself Andy. The name is more suited to a one hit wonder like Andy Kim. Have a listen – he’s trying to be Neil Diamond but he isn’t. And have a listen to Andy Burnham – he’s trying to be Prime Minister but he won’t be.
Why Andy Burnham will never be Prime Minister.
