I say “apparently” because I had no idea who she was. I saw a gaggle of paparazzi and TV news crews gathered outside Basing Street Studios to catch the stars of Band Aid 30 on the way in to cut a new version of an old chestnut. “Rita! Rita!” they yelled. I had to google “Rita Band Aid” before I could identify her. Is it my age or did the original Band Aid boast a far more illustrious line-up? Were George Michael, Phil Collins, Sting and Boy George more famous in their 80s heydays than Rita and co are now? Of course they were. In 1984, you needed to sell truckloads to get to No.1. Still, the world changes but three things haven’t. Band Aid is still a vital source of funds for Africa. Midge Ure still doesn’t get enough credit for it. And Bono still gets far too much.
Apparently, I saw Rita Ora on Saturday.
