I met up with my old friend Laurence Barber today. We were supposed to be talking about work and ended up talking about second hand cars. We both love cars but not in a Top Gear, petrol-head way. It’s about the freedom and independence they bring, the means to be in a different place every second. We’ve both bought loads over the years and this is all you need to know: Look at the vehicle very carefully but pay even more attention to the person selling it. If you don’t buy the person, don’t buy the car. And have this Sly & Robbie riddim in your pocket either on a phone, CD or – if the car’s really old – cassette. Put it on full blast with the bass whacked up high. If the speakers don’t fall out of the doors, you’ve got yourself a bargain.
How to buy a second hand car.
