It started as a bit of a jape. The Labour leadership candidates were all so dull that veteran left-winger Jeremy Corbyn was persuaded to stand too. Nobody expected him to win, but now it looks very much as though he might. An unlikely coalition of left-wing activists and right-wing Tories have joined the Labour Party and used their votes to push Corbyn, to his horror, into the lead. The activists because they’d like Labour to adopt more Marxist policies. And the Tories because they believe those very policies would make Labour completely unelectable. Jeremy Corbyn is a good man, a principled MP who works tirelessly for his constituents. But the world has moved on since he was elected in 1983 and, with nothing new to say, he seems ill-equipped to deal with it. Still, let’s enjoy one of the only hits with the word “Jeremy” in it, and a rare instance of politics being fun, fun, fun.
Corbynmania.
