I’m sure you saw this ad for Heathrow Airport over Christmas. But at a David Reviews talk by the people who made it, I discovered something about the music. They’d originally wanted to use The Beatles’ “Two of Us” but knew this would be impossible, so they began to search for an alternative. The creative team were Australian and finally found the perfect track. “It’s by a couple of guys we’ve never heard of”, they explained, “They’re called Chas & Dave”. Musical snobbery would have meant British people rejecting anything by Chas & Dave without even listening to it. But being Australian removed these pre-conceptions. Cultural differences can sometimes be a bad thing but not always. In this context, they proved that Chas & Dave are better than The Beatles.
