Radio 2 DJ Richard Allinson and I had kids at the same school and, at the school fete, we always did the music. He played a few, I played a few and so on. I was playing this just as the headmaster joined the adjacent queue for a hot dog. He was loving it – even busting a few moves. He turned to my wife and said, “Isn’t this fantastic? Having a real radio DJ doing the music?” She was quick to correct him. “No, no it’s definitely Paul picking the music. This is exactly the sort of crap he plays at home”. Charming. And looking at this clip, I suppose it’s just as well I was only playing the music. Because I do wonder whether the headmaster would have been quite so keen on the video.
The day my wife stuck up for me. (Sort of).
