It’s Valentine’s Day and you have two choices. Either voice your curmudgeonly little objections to schmaltzy commercialism. Or use 14th February as an excuse to demonstrate your love to its lucky recipient. It doesn’t have to take the form of a giant card with a red satin heart. Or a “romantic” meal in a naff restaurant where the Valentine’s Day menu includes a “complimentary glass of bubbly for the ladies”. Love is simply recognising someone’s needs and meeting them. Today most of us need, and would love, a little bit of romance. We need to feel the sentiments of this song directed right at us. So yes, embrace the spirit of Valentine’s Day. And embrace another human being.
Embrace it.
