I found myself in the Mary Lou Room at the Groucho Club watching a live art exhibition. Sculptor Frances Segelman was sculpting a hermaphrodite artist called XXXora who lay semi-naked before her. During this, we had to listen to XXXora talking about the painful struggle of androgyny and dual sexuality and how her true catharsis came through art. It was almost laughably pretentious and I could imagine Carrie Bradshaw being taken to something similar in SoHo rather than Soho. She’d have gone with a handsome art dealer with whom she thinks she’s fallen in love. However, his pseudo-intellectual enthusiasm for this soulless and sexless exhibition turns Carrie off. At the end, as she explains why she was then unable to have sex with him, this is the track we’d hear.
It was like an episode of the Sex & The City.
