The last BHS stores closed today and it’s very sad, largely because of the rebarbative behaviour of Philip Green. This grotesque greedbucket made a superyacht-sized fortune from pillaging the company before flogging it off for a penny. 11,000 people have lost their jobs and their pensions. But Green acted entirely within the law so those hoping to see him banged up are doomed to disappointment. Greed may be a sin but it isn’t necessarily a crime. I actually thought that BHS had closed down a long time ago. The one at the end of my old road in Kilburn certainly did. It was next door to Our Price Records where I used to buy singles like this. Just down the road from Comet, where I bought the music centre to play them on. High street names will always come and go. Just like The Maisonettes.
So farewell then, BHS.
