Was a brief stint, sitting in for my friend Nigel, as Saturday afternoon DJ at the Virgin Megastore. Instead of the latest hits, I’d play semi-obscure tracks to to showcase the store’s huge breadth of music. It was fantastic. I’d often look out of the booth and see the manager, a lovely laid back Aussie called Jeff – or “Jiff”- jiving in the aisles. But on my final Saturday, Jiff wasn’t there. This track was playing when the door burst open and the horrible relief manager – small, Scottish and rude – said “Get this rubbish off and play these”. He handed me a pile of Madonna, Phil Collins and Bros CDs. So I removed my headphones and said “Tell you what, sweetheart……(Don’t know why I called him “sweetheart”). Play them yourself”, walked out and never went back. There’s a tiny chance that Jiff might see this, so I just wanted to say sorry. And thank you.
My favourite job ever.
