When I was a child, my favourite place in the world was Marine Ices. In an era when dull, cardboard flavoured ice cream came in blocks from newsagents or tubs from Bejam, , this wondrous place opposite Chalk Farm tube offered an array of exotic Italian gelati that made me dizzy with excitement. A few years ago, it closed and moved to much smaller premises a few doors away while the original parlour was turned, inevitably, into luxury apartments. I drove past there last night, and they’re about to go on sale. If I had the money, I’d be tempted to buy one. I can think of few better locations than a place that gave me some of the happiest moments of my past. Especially when it’s just a few doors away from a place that could do the same for my future.
My favourite place.
