I never go to festivals.

I’m the wrong generation. Too young for Woodstock, too old for Glastonbury but even if I weren’t, I’m not a fan of huge concerts in the open air. I was lucky enough to see some big names in small venues. The Who at the State in Kilburn and U2 at the Hammersmith Palais to name just two. But I did go to one festival – the Capital Jazz Festival at Alexandra Palace. I had a free ticket and BB King was on the bill. The blues legend – and for once that term is richly deserved – died today aged 89. I have nothing to add to the tributes that been pouring in. Except to say that I saw him play live. But at the time, I didn’t really enjoy or appreciate what I was seeing. Though from now on, of course, I’ll be pretending that I did.
