Finsbury Park.

In the news this week for all the wrong reasons. A Muslim-hating monster drove a van on to the pavement near the mosque, trying to mow down as many congregants as possible. Finsbury Park is about ten minutes for me. It’s a truly mixed community where people from all parts of the world, all creeds and classes rub along quite nicely together. It was always a place associated with music. In the 70s, it was home to the Rainbow theatre. David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, James Brown, Pink Floyd, and Bob Marley all played the Rainbow. Before that it was the Astoria. In December 1965, when The Beatles were far and away the biggest band in the world, they still played the Finsbury Park Astoria. This was No.1 at the time and right now, let’s hope its title resonates for the good people of Finsbury Park.
