I’ve got nothing against Fleetwood or Mac (s) or Stevie or Lindsey. I bought Rumours and Tusk when I was at school but I cannot believe they’re still going. Tickets for the shows tonight and tomorrow at the 02 are now changing hands for £1,000. For Fleetwood Mac? The music’s okay, if a little bland, so why are people so desperate to see them? Is it just fiftysomethings trying to recapture their youth? Apparently not. I was working recently with two girls in their twenties, both almost weeping with joy because they’d got tickets. Fleetwood Mac are “legends” they tell me and there’s your answer. In todays X-Factor world, younger music fans have a severe shortage of “legends”, so they venerate those who attained that status before they themselves were born. Here’s my favourite version of a Fleetwood Mac track. Bear with it, it’s wonderful.
Fleetwood Mac? Seriously?
