Because I loved the buccaneering style with which the USA played Belgium last night, battling to the very last minute of extra time. They were cheered on by a proud nation, some becoming enthralled by what we call “football” for the very first time. My friend Tom Morton watched the match in New York City with a truly multi-national crowd, all shouting themselves hoarse for for the US of A. What a refreshing change from those horrible, sour-faced Scots who’ll support anyone against England – the place they’ve chosen to live. Uncle Sam often gets a bad rap but every time I’ve been to America, I’ve loved it. So I can well understand why Tom is……the title of this song.
I’ll even forgive them for calling it “soccer”.
