My friend Tom went to school with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

And he said that if anyone was going to be a huge star, it was……….Andrew Ridgeley. No one, apparently, ever thought that George Michael would be famous. And without Andrew, he almost certainly wouldn’t have been. According to Tom, it was Ridgeley who was the driving force behind Wham – extrovert and charismatic in a way that George simply wasn’t. The “brand” of Wham – a young, carefree hedonistic duo, was very much Ridgeley’s creation. Through it, he coaxed out his friend’s colossal talent and set him up for a phenomenal solo career. Ridgeley then cheerfully waved goodbye to the limelight and has never really sought to return. “Last Christmas” is, of course, being played constantly at the moment, so let’s flip it over and remember that this was a true double A-side. While also remebering the conceptual genius of Andrew Ridgeley.
