Sometimes in Europe, we should be ashamed of ourselves. We’ve known for years about the stench of corruption surrounding Sepp Blatter and FIFA and yet we did nothing about it. Now because FIFA money was laundered through Miami, the US justice system can swing into action. Blatter has already resigned and he and his cohorts may now finally be prosecuted. Uncle Sam gets a pretty bad rap and issues like Guantanamo Bay suggest their justice system is far from perfect. But right now it’s exactly what we need. Led by Loretta Lynch, the fearless Attorney General, the US will go after FIFA just like they went after crooked bankers and put them behind bars. Which is more than we did. Americans are always first to sort out humanitarian disasters and it’s America who’ll be expected to sort out ISIS or Putin. Every now and again, we need to remember that.
