God, I hate The Smiths.

Always have done. Purely subjective but Morrissey to me is like an allergy. Just the sight of his face or the sound of his voice is enough to bring me out in hives. Had I even attempted to read his recent autobiography, I’d have ended up in A&E. That said, I’ve always thought Johnny Marr was a brilliant guitarist and that fantastic intro to How Soon Is Now slightly spoiled my unconditional loathing of everything they’ve ever done. So imagine my delight at discovering that it was “borrowed” from this old Stones track. And that The Stones themselves almost certainly borrowed it from Bo Diddley. And how appropriate that Morrissey would be influenced by a track called “Mona”.
