Britain goes to the polls today to vote on whether to leave or remain in the EU. Unlike General Elections where the old maxim “Doesn’t matter who you vote for, you still get the government” tends to prevail, this is a stark and simple choice between two very different futures. Every vote matter and I’ve a feeling that a majority will vote to remain. Not because they love the EU but because they fear the alternative. They’d rather wake up tomorrow morning and not face massive political upheaval. And whether they’re right or wrong, that’s quite a powerful incentive. I just hope that the words of this song don’t come back to haunt us: “If I go, it will be trouble. If I stay, it will be double”
Oh God, this really matters.
