Still thinking about the triumphant joy of last Saturday’s Royal Wedding. Harry and Meghan were fantastically fortunate with the weather, as the pomp and splendour of Windsor in brilliant sunshine were captured forever on a million smartphones. Best of all, the myth of “racist Britain” was elegantly exposed. I’d guarantee that there was barely a Briton anywhere who didn’t love that service. The Royalists for obvious reasons and cynical republicans because of the gospel choir and charismatic oratory of Bishop Michael Curry. I thought how wrong “liberals” were when they suggested that white working-class Britons would have a problem with this. We’ve always loved America, particularly Black America and the idols it has given us. The only thing missing that would have made this occasion beyond perfect was the late Edwin Hawkins leading the gospel choir in a rousing rendition of this.
Oh Happy Day.
