It is Dolly Parton but slowed down from 45 to 33. I used to play it and tell people it was the original version by an obscure male country singer, and was banned in Southern states because of its homosexual content. It’s Dolly Parton’s birthday today – 68 and still looking fabulous. Mind you, she’s never been coy about the amount of “work” she’s had done. When asked if people ever took her for a dumb blonde, she replied “Hell no because I ain’t dumb. And I ain’t blonde”. My only issue with this country classic is the description of Jolene: “Flaming locks of auburn hair, with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green”. Doesn’t sound exactly gorgeous, does she? So I’ve never understood what Dolly was so worried about.
If you’ve never heard this before, it’s amazing.
