Not strictly true. I saw her perform live at the first Comic Relief Show in 1986. She sang a “comedy number” with Rowan Atkinson which wasn’t quite as good as this sublime duet with Peter Gabriel from the same year. Kate Bush is almost universally admired. When she first came to fame with Wuthering Heights, she was very much the bohemian sixth-former with whom all the third years were secretly in love. Even now, she retains that aura but I can’t work out whether these concerts will be the best thing she’s ever done or the worst. I just hope that she performs this and that we’re all glad she didn’t, as the song says, give up.
Kate Bush announces first live shows for 35 years.
