Were two sisters from Hackney who used to come down to Le Beat Route in Soho where I had a Friday night residency. Friends of Graham “Fatman” Cantor, my fellow Friday night DJ, they were down to earth party girls, terrific fun and strikingly beautiful. They kept telling me they were getting a record deal. I never believed them, then one night Melanie handed me pre-release 12″ of this, said “Told ya” and made me play it. It was instant hit on the dancefloor that night and then on dancefloors everywhere. The great Tony Harris paid tribute to Mel & Kim today on onetonyharris.com, and he clearly loved them as much as I did. But as we all know, about three years later, Mel’s life was cut tragically short by cancer. I only wish I could provide a happy ending to this story but sadly there are times when you just can’t.
