John Bishop’s agent is a great friend of mine and asked me if I’d help produce a new voice reel for the great Liverpudlian favourite. This involves providing scripts for him to record and directing him in the studio while he does so. I instantly agreed simply because of this record. John Bishop chose it on Desert Island Discs because, he said, it reminded him of the “unalloyed joy of childhood”. I hadn’t heard it since I was a child but it had exactly the same effect on me. He said his Dad used to play it. So did mine. I reasoned that any man who likes Bimbo must be a lovely fella. And as it turned out, I was absolutely right.
Why I knew I’d like John Bishop.
