…which depicts the famous Christmas Day truce between British and German soldiers during the First World War in which they ceased fire, exchanged gifts and played football. On the one hand, it’s been beautifully made in conjunction with the Royal British Legion. Its central message – that Christmas is a time for sharing and for peace and goodwill to all – is truthfully and poignantly conveyed. However, some feel a little uneasy at the commercial cynicism of a supermarket chain using the tragedy of the trenches to boost its sales over Christmas. Not quite sure what I think. But I’m pretty sure I know what Paul McCartney must be thinking.
A lot of debate about the Sainsbury’s Christmas ad….
