And never more so than today. I refer of course to Harry Redknapp, the last of the old-school football managers. Today he scored one of the greatest triumphs of his 50-year career by leading QPR to a 1-0 victory over Derby County at Wembley and back into the Premier League. Derby were by far the better side but QPR snatched it in the last minute so Harry was incredibly lucky. But then he always has been. Lucky not to have been killed in a serious road accident, lucky not to have been jailed for tax evasion and fantastically lucky today. At 67, Harry’s still an old rogue but a great manager who’s always made his own luck. He’s brought my team back into the big time and after the game, I hope the players were singing this in his honour.
We know we shouldn’t love him but we do.
