I never went to university. Partly because I didn’t fancy living in some provincial northern town in a grotty student house and having to my name on my yoghurt. Though I did quite fancy the London School of Economics. The LSE was famous seat of learning, a hotbed of revolutionary ideas and Mick Jagger had gone there. That would mean not leaving London. But it would also have meant not leaving home. So what was the point? In the end, it was immaterial. I lacked the maturity, application and A levels to go to the LSE. Until this week. I was up on stage in the lecture theatre giving a talk about the dearth of jokes in British advertising. And I couldn’t help thinking that me on the stage at the LSE was the biggest joke of all.
The LSE.
