In the great spectrum of life, I’ve always seen love and sex at one end, and religion right at the other. So how could one of the most sensuous, soulful purveyors of the love song possibly be a clergyman? Then I discovered that it may well be for tax reasons. The IRS allows clergymen all sorts of tax breaks that aren’t open to your average love god. This could explain why the likes of Al Green, Solomon Burke and Little Richard were ordained. I do hope so. I’d hate to think that their beliefs were genuine. Because when it comes to mending a broken heart, isn’t love a lot more powerful than religion?
How can this man be “The Reverend” Al Green?
