Will this spawn a new generation of playground bores who can recite every word of the Parrot Sketch? Oh, I do hope not. It’s often assumed that John Cleese went from the glory of Python straight to further adulation in Fawlty Towers but he didn’t. He laboured for a while in between as Les Dawson’s straight man in Sez Les. He also made a cameo appearance in this rather Python-esque Paul McCartney track. Never released as a single over here but it topped the US charts in 1971. Wouldn’t it be a great idea if Paul joined the Pythons on stage and he and Cleese performed this as an encore? No, you’re right, it wouldn’t.
So there’s going to be a Monty Python reunion show.
