As millions of us do every year on Remembrance Sunday as a mark of respect to those who gave their lives to protect the freedoms we are fortunate enough to take for granted. When I do, my wife will no doubt be berating me for having neither aptitude for, nor interest in, domestic chores of any description. Sunday would not be Sunday without it. Though this Sunday, for two minutes, I can solemnly refuse to engage. Knowing my reverence for fallen heroes is genuine, she’ll have no choice but to fall silent too. She will be literally speechless. Never mind that 11.02, the shrewish demands to take an interest in housework and gardening will re-boot immediately, it will have been worth it.
I’m about to observe a two minute silence.
