Mine would have to be Phil Fearon’s 30th birthday party on a riverboat down the Thames. It was around 1986 and Phil Fearon was a big star. I didn’t know him but he was local, I used to see him around, so that was good enough. My mate Joe knew which boat it was and when it was leaving. So we thought if we could just get on board until it set sail, they wouldn’t be able to chuck us off. It worked but within seconds, we were stopped by a huge bouncer. “These boys ain’t got invites, Phil” he said, “What do I do?” Before I could stop myself, I sang “…if I wanna get through to you!” Our host burst out laughing. “Come on in, guys”, he smiled, “Grab yourselves a drink”.
