Yesterday, I happened to catch Simon Mayo’s drivetime show. It was All Request Friday which always provides a fascinating glimpse of the Great British Public. They phone in for their requests from the M6 en route to the Lake District or to Bill and Shirley’s ruby wedding party for whom they want a big “shout out”. I live in London. I never meet people like this but I instinctively like them. They’re nice, sensible people, conservative with a small c. They’re not bigoted or racist but they probably voted Leave because they were fed up with being bossed around or ignored by a distant “liberal” elite. With their Homebase loyalty cards, they think Theresa May is doing quite a good job, considering. This track, not surprisingly, is a big favourite on All Request Friday. I really enjoyed it and would advise more politicians to tune in now and again.
