Without question, the BBC’s best and most successful new sitcom in years. Peter Kay is a phenomenal talent – as a comedian, actor and writer. And now in Car Share – sorry, Peter Kay’s Car Share (for that’s its official title), director too. And that’s what I’ve always found slightly odd. Why does someone so brilliant feel the need have his name at the front of anything he stars in? We didn’t have Ricky Gervais’s The Office or John Cleese’s Fawlty Towers. And yet we have Peter Kay’s Car Share, as we had Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights. Strangest of all, when this record was re-released a few years ago in aid of Comic Relief, it was credited to Tony Christie featuring Peter Kay. Even though it was recorded in 1971 – two years before Peter Kay was born.
