Such a talented actor who struggled for years before finding fame, acclaim and an Oscar nomination for playing Fagin in Oliver. He was brilliant as Fagin. Trouble was, he was too brilliant and, from then on, casting directors couldn’t think of him as anything else. As a consequence, he wasn’t considered for roles which should brought him recognition as one of the finest actors this country has ever produced. No wonder that, as the years wore on, his surname became increasingly appropriate. He died yesterday at the ripe old age of 91. Yet even in death, he was upstaged by Christopher Lee – less talented but far more famous – who died a couple of hours later at the even riper old age of 93. But at least Ron’s surname is included in the title of one of Amy’s greatest recordings.
Poor old Ron Moody.
