Tell me I’ve imagined this. An “Ibiza Prom” introduced by Pete Tong. Apparently, the BBC Symphony Orchestra played a selection of bangin’ club tunes and it was broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall on Radio 1 and Radio 3. Oh God, what a buttock-clenchingly embarrassing example of the BBC thinking they’re “down with the kids”. Though at 55, Tongy is hardly a kid. Heaven forfend that the Proms be seen as “elitist”. So, hey, let’s include some dance music and make it more “accessible”. Just one thing: when was the last time a big night at Fabric or Ministry of Sound included some Mozart, Beethoven or Bach? Exactly. Because clubbers and classical music fans are quite happy in their own separate genres. So let’s just hear a proper club anthem not played by a symphony orchestra. Ibiza Prom? Jeez. And the BBC wonder why it’s all gone Pete Tong.
