…used to have regular comedy nights. The pub was five minutes from me so I went quite a lot. One night they introduced a surprise guest – Robin Williams, Hollywood superstar and the most famous stand-up comedian in the world. He was in London promoting a movie and just wanted to try out some new material. Apparently, he was sensational. I’d love to say I was there that night but I wasn’t. I’d always wanted to see Robin Williams live but now I never will. He was found dead this morning and it was probably suicide. He suffered from depression, so his highs were much higher than ours but his lows were much lower. I’d rather remember him for his highs because they’re what gave millions of people across the world, including those fortunate few in West Hampstead, moments of genius they will never forget.
