They now have a Premier League football team. Brighton’s 2-1 win over Wigan means they’ll be playing in the top flight next season. If I had to live outside the M25, I’d head for Brighton. I love its relaxed tolerant vibe, thriving gay community, countless artisan coffee shops and the fact that it has a shop called Vegetarian Shoes. You could remove the B from Brighton because Righton would be a far more apposite name. I thought about Brighton only last night when listening to Mark Radcliffe’s excellent programme about the history of football chants. Though, being the BBC, they omitted what I’ve heard QPR fans chanting to their Brighton counterparts: “Does your boyfriend, does your boyfriend, does your boyfriend know you’re here??” But Brighton fans have had the last laugh. They won’t be hearing this at QPR next season, they’ll be hearing it at Old Trafford.
One more reason to love Brighton.
