But not for long. I was asleep again by 3.04 and it was with my ability to do this that I made a rod for my own back. When my children were babies and woke in the night, it was always me who’d feed and change them. My wife insisted I was “lucky” because I could go straight back to sleep. Not as lucky as she was, not having to wake up in the first place. This morning, I was awake just long enough to think “It’s Wednesday morning 3 am” and recall this exquisite track. Just one guitar and two perfectly harmonious voices telling a poignant tale in two and a half minutes. It brought Simon & Garfunkel to the world’s attention in 1964 and contains all the reasons why they’ve remained there ever since.
For some reason, I woke up this morning at 3.03.
