And if you have an independent record shop near you, there are two ways you can support it. Either by buying records from them, or by giving records to them. This morning, I took a crate of unwanted vinyl down to Flashback Records in Crouch End. It’s a great little shop, straight out of a Nick Hornby book, and it was heartening to see a huge queue outside. I’d much rather donate those old records to them than to a charity shop who are unlikely to appreciate them. While sorting through, I found two copies of this – one of the greatest dance records ever made. I gave the spare one to Flashback. Though perhaps I should have given it to the Oxfam Shop, just to watch the old ladies behind the counter busting a moves.
It’s Record Store Day.
