It’s gathering pace and it’s not just a retro thing. There are solid, sonic reasons for its revival, as there were for its demise. Vinyl always offered a richer, warmer sound than CD but only good quality vinyl. If you’ve got any old albums from the 60s, you’ll know that the vinyl was thicker and better quality and so was the sound it produced. By the late 80s, record companies were trying to maximise profits (now there’s a surprise) by using cheap, flimsy vinyl. The sound quality suffered enormously, forcing everyone to swap to CDs. But albums are once again being pressed on the good stuff making CDs sound awfully tinny by comparison. This is a track from one of my oldest vinyl LPs. If you think it sounds good, imagine how much better it sound sounds on authentic 52 year old vinyl.
The return of vinyl.
