RIP Bobby Womack.

I was a big fan. As were people far more famous than me. The likes of Ronnie Wood, Peter Gabriel and Damon Albarn have all acknowledged their musical debt to this true soul legend. He was a fantastic songwriter and session musician but I just loved his voice – that gravelly emotive baritone that put real feeling into every note he sang. I still have The Poet, The Poet II and So Many Rivers, the great trilogy of albums that he released and I bought back in the 80s. This track is from So Many Rivers. Listen to the words and the way he sings them and you just know that this story is true.
