The first famous death of 2014 is one half of The Everly Brothers. Their success and influence in the late 50s and early 60s was phenomenal which is why we’re all so familiar with their sound. They set the template for harmonic vocals, and one of the reasons their voices were so melodiously complementary was because they were brothers and shared the same genes. The same is obviously true of the Wilson brothers and the Gibb brothers, which is why the Beach Boys and the Bee Gees have always acknowledged that they owe everything to the Everlys. So many tracks to choose from but let’s salute Phil Everly with a huge hit that he wrote himself. And in answer to his question “When will I be loved?”, he always was and he always will be.
RIP Phil Everly.
