Kids are now back at school and I can’t help noticing that more of them seem to be in uniform than ever before. School uniform is now back in vogue because it gives pupils a sense of equality and identity. It removes worry about what to wear to school and the bullying of those whose clothes aren’t cool. Apparently, a uniform also improves pupils’ behaviour out of school because they know they can be easily identified. The school uniform is back because the teachers who abolished it in a flurry of 1960s “Hey, let the kids express themselves” ideals are now in their sixties themselves and are finally being pensioned off. Though talking of the sixties, when Brian Epstein first set The Beatles up to conquer the world, what was the first thing he did? Give them a uniform.
School uniforms everywhere.
