Happy Birthday to Sir Paul McCartney, 74 today. Yes, his voice has gone, he should really give up the live performing, his hair is strange shade of mauve and, for perhaps the greatest star the pop world has ever produced, he’s still irritatingly down-to-earth and faux-ordinary. But as a bone fide musical genius, he’s still as underrated as John Lennon is overrated. Here’s a perfect example of one of his B-sides being better than most of Lennon’s A-sides. McCartney was always the more talented and experimental of the two. And if Lennon had also lived to be 74, this would have become more and more apparent.
