Is a famously apt description for politics, and never more so than today. First we had Ann Widdecombe making a fool of herself on Strictly, and now we have Ed Balls doing the same. Ann Widdecombe can almost be forgiven. She and her views have always been, shall we say, “eccentric” but Balls touted himself as a great intellectual, a serious politician who, if Labour had won last year, would now be Chancellor of the Exchequer. Instead he lost his seat. And now, this repulsive charlatan – this utter, utter arsecake – has lost what remained of his dignity too. Let’s hope that next week, he’s forced to perform this routine perfectly. And if he fails, the audience get to beat him with sticks. That really would be a night to remember.
