I have many sisters and by the time I was a toddler, my sister Anita was already a teenager and when she went out on a date, apparently I often went along too. I don’t remember it but something about this song, which must have been a hit at the time, stirs a vague and distant recollection. I’m not sure how her boyfriend Trevor felt about pushing me on the swings in Golders Hill Park instead of seeing a film or maybe a “pop group” at the Kilburn State. He couldn’t have minded too much because they’re still together and today is Anita’s birthday. They’re going out for a celebratory meal on Saturday with their children and grandchildren and I’ll be going along too. Old habits die hard.
I started dating when I was about three.
